Books
I just spent a ridiculous amount of money on books, many of which I am not really excited about, all for the sake of studying for comps. The worst part about the whole thing is that I feel really intimidated by all of the books I've just purchased and am quite uncertain as to my ability to master them before the middle of March. Grrr.

Hey Mike,
I know how you feel. The trepidation that rattles through my bones at the thought of having to know/synthesize/re-create over 1,000 years of literary history is something I must daily combat by means of meditative breathing techniques and massive amounts of chocolate.

But there's something comforting about books, even if you don't cherish them. It's also nice to have them sitting there on your shelf, waiting for you to bring them down in one sweeping gesture and refute them mightily.
It also serves to keep folks from figuring they have you in a box.
